Happy 14th Anniversary Gates Avenue Knitters!

Happy 14th Anniversary Gates Avenue Knitters!

The Gates Avenue Knitters and Crocheters (aka GAK) celebrated the beginning of 14 years together on Wed, April 24th at the Long Hill Township Library.

The Gates Avenue Knitters started as a small group, alternating in each members home.  However, as the group grew, they needed a new home and the Long Hill Township Library was happy to offer space.  Membership has grown to more than 50 knitters and crocheters!

The Gates Avenue Knitters are a generous group...having donated hundreds of hats, scarves, mittens, blankets and sweaters to numerous local charities.  In the fall, beautiful hand-knit hats are contributed to the Long Hill Library.  Many of you probably own GAK hats! This year the "hat" money collected has helped sponsor the “Museum Adventure Pass” program.

The Gates Avenue Knitters & Crocheters meet on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month at 7-9pm. They welcome new members!
The Long Hill Township Library is delighted to be home to the Gates Avenue Knitters.

Happy Anniversary!

Long Hill Library Celebrates National Library Week

(Gillette, NJ) – The Long Hill Township Library is taking part in National Library Week, April 14-20, and invites you to join in the celebration. This year National Library Week is celebrating the importance of community.

More than just a place to borrow books and movies, your library provides a place for community gathering and lifelong learning. Community-building connections happen all the time at the library. From new moms connecting at story time, to people socializing at movies or concerts, to teens meeting up after school, to scouting troops working on badges and projects, to a place to be warm and safe during disasters, the library helps bring community together.

“Everyday libraries across the country are providing inspiration, entertainment and information to millions of people, says Alexandria Arnold, Director of the Long Hill Township Library. “Libraries are the heart of every community because they have the ability to help build business, strengthen community ties, and change lives through life-long learning.”

The Long Hill Township Library is celebrating National Library Week in two special ways this year. The library is collecting “your favorite books” recommendations from local officials and residents. You’ll be able to “get to know your community” by the books they recommend. Please stop by to see and/or add your selection to the display. In addition, we’ll be having a library scavenger hunt with prizes. The prizes are four $20 Amazon gift certificates. You can’t win if you don’t play!

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

For more information, visit the Long Hill Township Library at 917 Valley Road, Gillette, NJ, call 908-647-2088 or see the library’s Web site at www.longhilllibrary.org.
