No! I Don't Want to Join a Book Club - Virginia Ironside
Her friends may face turning 60 with trepidation, but retired art teacher Marie Sharp can’t wait for the benefits—including the freedom to say no to book clubs and learning Italian.

The novel resembles a British comedy of manners with clever witticisms and smart cultural references; the heartwarming interactions with her first grandchild and close relationship with a dying friend add emotional depth. Sharp’s refreshing outlook is hard to resist, no matter your age.

Focus on the Election @ Long Hill Library

SUPPORT YOUR CANDIDATE, SUPPORT THE LIBRARY, AND LEARN A LITTLE SOMETHING!

Join WHRHS history teacher Shelly Lettington for a timely discussion of the
history of the power struggle between the President and the Supreme Court in a
talk called POTUS (President of the United States) vs. SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States), at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27.

And while you're at the library don't forget to VOTE in our Presidential Penny Poll!

Three jars representing Mitt Romney, Barack Obama, and the other four major candidates will be available at the front of the library. Patrons can contribute a few coins or more to “vote” for the candidate of their choice. Whichever candidate has the most money when the poll closes at 7:00 PM on election night will be the “winner.” All proceeds will go to support the Library.

“There are a lot of serious issues to consider in this year’s election,” said Library Director Alexandria Arnold. “This is a chance to lighten things up a little, and for residents to support the library by supporting their candidate.”

“There are all sorts of wacky ways to predict the winner of the election,” she added with a smile. “Some people track sales of Halloween face masks. Why shouldn’t the Long Hill Library Penny Poll become another important national predictor?”

Tune in for Penny Poll election results on the Library’s web page longhilllibrary.org.

The POTUS v SCOTUS talk is part of the “Out of the Classroom: WHREA Community Lectures Series,” sponsored by the Watchung Hills Education Association, the high school teacher’s union.
