The Great Swamp @ Long Hill Library

The Great Swamp, Wed, Apr 17 @ 7pm at Long Hill Township Library

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Great Swamp by learning its history!

The Great Swamp is in our backyard but do you know it's history & eco-importance?

Learn how the Great Swamp was formed by the epic retreat of the Wisconsin Glacier over 20,000 years ago. Moving forward in time we'll see a few glimpses of the Swamp in the 1800's, and then through the historic battle that kept the swamp from becoming an airport in 1960 and the creation of the GS National Wildlife Refuge.

We'll end with the state of the plants & animals that inhabit the refuge today & learn about the endangered and threatened species that call it home.

Long Hill Library Celebrates National Library Week

(Gillette, NJ) – The Long Hill Township Library is taking part in National Library Week, April 14-20, and invites you to join in the celebration. This year National Library Week is celebrating the importance of community.

More than just a place to borrow books and movies, your library provides a place for community gathering and lifelong learning. Community-building connections happen all the time at the library. From new moms connecting at story time, to people socializing at movies or concerts, to teens meeting up after school, to scouting troops working on badges and projects, to a place to be warm and safe during disasters, the library helps bring community together.

“Everyday libraries across the country are providing inspiration, entertainment and information to millions of people, says Alexandria Arnold, Director of the Long Hill Township Library. “Libraries are the heart of every community because they have the ability to help build business, strengthen community ties, and change lives through life-long learning.”

The Long Hill Township Library is celebrating National Library Week in two special ways this year. The library is collecting “your favorite books” recommendations from local officials and residents. You’ll be able to “get to know your community” by the books they recommend. Please stop by to see and/or add your selection to the display. In addition, we’ll be having a library scavenger hunt with prizes. The prizes are four $20 Amazon gift certificates. You can’t win if you don’t play!

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.

For more information, visit the Long Hill Township Library at 917 Valley Road, Gillette, NJ, call 908-647-2088 or see the library’s Web site at www.longhilllibrary.org.
