Art of Ida Butterworth at Long Hill Library
Butterworth has been a traditional oil painter since 1966, painting a wide variety of subjects, including seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, still life, portraits and nature. Butterworth paints portraits in the Old Masters’ technique. Butterworth states “my process is to start with black and white paint, and then glaze color, layer upon layer, until realistic skin tone is achieved.”
Butterworth’s favorite subjects are sunset and sunrise, in which she tries to “capture the fleeting glory of the passing scene, because it never repeats itself. Every sunset is different.”
Butterworth has held numerous group and solo art exhibits in galleries, corporations, libraries, hospitals, restaurants and art associations. She is a frequent exhibitor at the invitation-only “International Miniature Art Exhibit,” held annually at the Paper Mill Playhouse, Millburn. Her miniature artwork has been accepted by two galleries in Maui, Hawaii.
Butterworths’s oil painting, “Stormy Day at Barnegat Light,” was accepted at the 4th Biannual Art Exhibit at the New Jersey State Museum, Trenton. It was also exhibited at the Summit Art Center Juried Art Exhibit and at Chubb in Warren Township. Butterworth has been a judge of the Student Art Exhibit at Felician College in Lodi, and she is registered at the library of the National Museum of Women in Arts, Washington, D.C.
Butterworth resides in Stirling and is also a realtor with Keller Williams Towne Square Realty, Bernardsville.
