Explore the Morris County Libraries and you may win a prize while you're at it!
The Long Hill Township Library will participate again this September in the Morris County Library Consortium’s Passport to Imagination contest. The contest, which runs throughout the month, encourages Morris county residents to check out other libraries in the Morris county library network.
To participate, library card holders must first obtain a MAIN “passport” from their home library and then visit five additional MAIN libraries where the passport will be stamped. Library card holders who complete this series of library visits will be entered into a contest to win an Apple iPad 3, Google Nexus 7, or Kindle Paperwhite. The contest will be held from September 1, 2013 through September 30, 2013.
"It's so exciting for our library to be able to offer so many materials to our patrons," said Circulation Supervisor Clarissa Wagner. “It’s a great example of the kind of shared services New Jersey residents want to see happening.”
New for 2013 is a special children’s contest called Captain MAINia’s Adventures, an inter-library scavenger hunt open to all Passport to Imagination players under 10 years old. If they are able to find Captian MAINia’s hot air balloon in the Children’s Room of each of the six libraries they visit, they will be eligible for extra prizes. Prizes will be awarded at the county-wide Passport drawing at the Morris County Library in October.
M.A.I.N., Inc., the Morris Automated Information Network, is a consortium of 37 public libraries in northern New Jersey serving a population of over a half million residents. Through its participation in the MAIN network the Long Hill Township Library is able to offer residents more than two million items that can be checked out, including books, CD’s, videos, DVD’s and downloadable audio and e-books.

Defensive Driving Course at Long Hill Library
Defensive Driving Course at Long Hill Library
The Long Hill Township Library is hosting an AARP Defensive Driving Course on Wednesday, August 7 & Friday, August 9. The course is 6 hours long and is being held from 10:30 to 1:30. Participants must attend both days.
Why Take an AARP Driver Safety Course?
Because driving has changed since you first got your license, and doing so could save you money!
Cars have changed. So have traffic rules, driving conditions, and the roads you travel every day. Some drivers age 50+ have never looked back since they got their first driver's licenses, but even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills.
By taking a driver safety course you'll learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. You'll learn how you can manage and accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. You will have a greater appreciation of driving challenges and of how you can avoid potential collisions and injuries to yourself and others.
You may be eligible to receive an insurance discount upon completing the course, so consult your agent for details. Although the course is geared to drivers age 50 and older, the course is open to people of all ages.
AARP membership is not required to take the course and there are no tests to pass. The classroom course costs only $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.
The Library is located at 917 Valley Rd, Gillette, NJ. Space is limited. Please call 908-647-2088 or stop by the library to register.

See a Play This Summer at Long Hill Library
See a Play This Summer at Long Hill Library |
The Long Hill Township Library is pleased to present Ovid’s
“Metamorphoses” performed by The Shakespeare Theatre of New
Jersey’s Next Stage Ensemble on Saturday, August 3 at Noon. The library is located at 917 Valley Road, Gillette,
NJ.
In Ovid’s “Metamorphoses,” the myths of Ancient Greece come
vividly to life with a collection of tales of gods and mortals, romance and
revenge, hope and rebirth. From the origin of Echo to the ill-fated choices of
Midas, audiences will revel in famous and lesser-known tales that have shaped a
culture.
How did the world begin? Why does a voice echo back to you when
you shout in a canyon? Why do you see your reflection in still water? Does
someone control your destiny? These and other essential questions of humanity
have been the inspiration of legends and myths for centuries.
In residence on the campus of Drew University in Madison, The
Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is one of the 22 professional theatres in the
state. One of the leading Shakespeare theatres in the nation—serving 100,000
adults and children annually—it is New Jersey's only professional theatre
company dedicated to Shakespeare's canon and other classic masterworks. Through
its productions and education programs, the company strives to illuminate the
universal and lasting relevance of the classics.
